We are living in perilous times.  The world is in flux, creating anxiety all around us. I find comfort knowing that as Christians, we reside in calmness and serenity in the midst of trouble. We can lay down in peace and tranquility as we sleep because we are in the care and protection of God. We can trust in the Lord that he will keep us through the night.

Do you remember the children’s bedtime prayer:

Now I lay me down to sleep; I pray the Lord my soul to keep; keep me safe through the night and wake me with the morning light?

This prayer trained us how to overcome anxiety and sleepless nights as children when the boogyman was our worst fear. As adults, we often forget that we have been in training all of our lives and often overlook this simple prayer restated in Psalms 4:8.

We can choose to rest in peace through the night, or toss and turn with nervous anxiety. It is our choice. Why? Because God protects us through the night, but also bestowed free-will upon us allowing us to choose to abide in Him and rest in peace or toss and turn through the night.

The choice is ours.
