I just heard a song that stresses our plight with spiritual warfare that began when we were born. The lyrics focus on the necessity to stay vigilant in our walk, or we will repeat the missteps of the past. As I shared on previous Posts, we are in warfare. As soldiers we must armor up, stay in prayer, praise, and worship and weld our weapon (the Word) when confronted by Satan and his minions. We are fighting on two planes, the Spiritual, and the natural. Satan owns the airways and operates through people.

Satan’s Cycles are Repetitious

Satan’s cycles are the repetitions we go through in life. As we become more mature in our Christian walk we can more readily recognize the onset of an experience we had. The majority of our experiences do not replicate themselves 100% but reintroduce the areas we had the most difficulty in overcoming. As the lyrics of the song, Cycles, says, what did I miss? Must be something I ate, meaning something triggered the repeat experience. It could happen while listening to a song, watching the tv, movie, or video, reading something, or while out with friends at a restaurant.

The lyric – ‘when it ends, he wants to make a sequel, because if he has another chance, he feels like he can take my joy, my peace, my faith’ are the ways the devil robs us.

Satan Creates Environments to Steal, Kill, and Destroy

He robs us in many ways, direct and indirect, though he generally works through people. How does he work through people? He uses tactics familiar with our sin nature such as:

“sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control),  idolatry, sorcery [witchcraft], hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions [that promote heresies],  envy, drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these.” Galatians 5: 19-27 AMP

Our Triggers Cause Cycling

Our triggers are our ticks, those thoughts that cycle through our mind to get ahead of, get around of, push ahead of, deceive, lie (people try to convince themselves that ‘white lies’ are the little lies that cannot hurt) and cheat. They are the traits people employ around others at school, work, and playing sports or games. They are expressed in the way people often fight for a promotion or interject themselves into a group to disrupt the group and sow discord.

It is these traits and cycles of events that cause us to look to the left and right, ignore the quiet voice of the Lord and return to our sinful state, rather than follow the Holy Spirits directions. Isaiah 30:21 NIV, instructs to stay the course, listen to Him and walk in the way He has directed, in other words, stop cycling.

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
