RePost: Overcoming Insecurities, Next Steps, 2017

This post is as relevant today as it was in 2017 or eons earlier. Most of us find ourselves questioning our worth, purpose, and abilities off and on throughout life.

At times it can be overwhelming when you are pursuing God’s plan for your life. When God reveals His plan to you, it is usually beyond your current skill set or ability. It can also be beyond your level of education and outside of your financial budget. It will stretch you and challenge you to come out of your comfort zone and start becoming the person God desires for you to be.

Sometimes this can leave us in a state of insecurity, as we have a tendency to feel small compared to the BIG plan that God has shown us. Yes, it can seem overwhelming at times, but you must understand and know that it’s not impossible and is in God’s Will for your life.

The key to overcoming your insecurities is to start trusting in God’s ability and not your feelings. When God called Gideon to raise up an army to defeat the enemy, Gideon was overwhelmed with feelings of insecurity. He thought for sure how could he be the one to do such a great thing. He came up with every excuse possible that stemmed from his own insecurity. I’m too poor. I’m too weak.

God didn’t leave Gideon in a state of insecurity and he won’t leave you there either. As you learn to trust in His Word and apply it to your life, you will begin to gain a level of confidence and courage that overrides any feelings of insecurity.

Remember that nothing great or extraordinary happens in your comfort zone. This means that you will have to break out of any insecurity mind-sets that you may have and start seeing yourself as God sees you. God sees you and a victor. He sees you as an overcomer. He sees you as a mighty person who is going to accomplish great things in life.

Heart Surgery

It’s amazing, man took eons to learn how to heal a heart, a physical transition from illness to becoming healthy. But, there are two types of heart surgery. ~ Lisa Blair

The heart surgery in Ezekiel 36:26 ESV is speaking about a spiritual heart surgery. This is not specific to a physical failure of the heart, the muscle is fine, it is speaking about our transition from our old way of living to our new life. Ezekiel was a priest and prophet in the Old Testament who foretold the coming of Christ. Barnes’ Notes informs us that we (individuals) would move from the letter of the law to the spirit of the law, or to put it another way, we will move from the Old Testament Law to the Gospel of Christ. For new Bible readers, we moved from the Law of Moses to the Law of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary explains, our new heart creates a change in mind and will. It changes our spirit, our motives and principle of action. He further explains, a“stony heart—(is) unimpressible in serious things; like the “stony ground” (Mt 13:5, 20), unfit for receiving the good seed so as to bring forth fruit.

“(A) heart of flesh—(is) not “carnal” in opposition to “spiritual”; but impressible and docile, fit for receiving the good seed. In Eze 18:31 they are commanded, “Make you a new heart, and a new spirit.” Here God says, “A new heart will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.” Thus the responsibility of man, and the sovereign grace of God, are shown to be coexistent. Man cannot make himself a new heart unless God gives it (Php 2:12, 13).”

Spiritual heart surgery opens our hearts allowing the Holy Spirit and the individual (you) to live in relationship, to coexist together in our physical being. Our heart becomes a new house, it becomes a home. As with any home, there is family and a head of the family. Our head is the Holy Spirit who guides us, directs us, and corrects us. It is the quiet voice that we here saying, go this way, do not stray, do not go to the left or right, follow me.

Easter More Than A Holiday

We will celebrate Christ rising and fulfilling the first part of God’s promise of our salvation within hours depending upon where you are in the world. Hallelujah! We are redeemed and saved.

This year deeply contemplate what your salvation means. There is so much going on in our lives and in the world, how can we be better stewards to all of it? What little things can you change in your life at this very moment. It may be a smile to a stranger or a loved one. It may be seeking out homeless services and supporting it in someway. It may be helping a single parent, reaching out to those around you. It could be picking up a piece of trash on the street and throwing it away. And most importantly, it may be reestablishing or strengthening your relationship with Christ, reading the Bible, attending Bible study, going to church, or sitting and discussing a scripture with someone else. (Important note: you must receive Christ as your Lord and Savior before you can begin a relationship with him. Recite Romans 10:9-10 with an open heart. …that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. biblegateway.com) If you are not yet comfortable with the above suggestions you may begin an internal conversation with the Holy Spirit whom Christ left with us.

We should all let this season have purpose in our lives, it should inspire us to become more mature Christians. Others should see the light of the Holy Spirit flowing through us. We should stand out. We are different.

So, Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:28. Daily verses.net

This is not a seasonal event. It is a recognition of our Savior being crucified in the worst way to save us from our mortal sin.

Non-Conforming Minds, Breaking Carnal Patterns

It is easy to conform to the patterns of this world. Doing so is little more than following those around us who seek popularity, career advancement, and conformity. Non-conforming lives requires thought, commitment, and yes, repentance.

There are two scriptures that I feel go hand-in-hand. The first is Romans 12:2, “do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.“ The second is Matthew 3:8 NLT, “Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and return to God.“

When we choose not to conform to the pattern of the world and choose to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, we are committing to become more like Christ. We become more loving towards those around us, as well as loving ourselves differently. We think about our actions in a different way. During which time we recognize our earthly actions require change known also as repentance. Repentance causes us to critically (objectively) review our action or actions and choose different paths. That is what Matthew 38 is saying, we prove (demonstrate) the way we live through recognition of our actions past and present, to repent means changing direction and leaving those old habits and thought patterns behind, to again, become more like Christ.

Holá!

2021 is coming to a close. I found this Dec 30, 2021 Lectio devotional to be very helpful in focusing and recapping the events in your life, lamenting, and moving forward into 2022.

While searching scriptures for this post, I came across an article entitled, 17 Bible Verses about New Beginning for the New Year, by Billy Hallowell, December 28, 2021. Insider. Pure flix..com, the author wrote, and I paraphrase, don’t let the events and happenings of 2021 hold you back in 2022. It’s easy to get bogged down and chaos and bad decisions, but it is never too late to embrace a new cell and push away the old self. Rather than dwelling on the past, solidify a new beginning by turning to scripture and prayer. Map out goals and pray that God guide you where he wants you in the new year.

Further, the author writes perhaps you feel weak and tired as 2021 comes to a close. Maybe you’ve struggled and are in need of strength and sustenance. Have no fear. Place your hope in God and pray for his supernatural strength to fill your heart and comfort you you can find renewed strength and a new beginning in him.
