Good Fight of Faith

Quote

I remember the days when I said, ”thank God, it’s Friday.” Finally, the end of the work week. I could sleep in a little longer and take it easy. Not really easy, my work duties were taken over by weekend chores. I’m a mother of 3 sons, a household of four males, and me.

The point is, I, like most felt the weekend was a time for (relative) rest. And, in secular terms, it is a time for rest, but in the spiritual realm, we have no time off. The truth is – to relax in the spiritual realm is dangerous. Why? Satan ramps up his attack on our lives when we are not alert. Fighting the ‘good fight of faith’ is a 24/7 commitment. God’s grace, our faith, and the scriptures are our weapons.

As Christians, we are called to share the Good News through word and deed. Setting this commitment aside for a few days weakens our spiritual health.

It is called the good fight because we are sharing the Word about God and Truth.

Each morning I prepare to fight the good fight (which is a battle) by putting on the Whole Armor of God (every warrior wears armor) and call my angel to duty. We can never relax to the point of leaving ourselves open to attack.

The Good Fight of Faith is a lifelong calling. We can never let down our guard. We should say, “Thank you God for waking me up at the appointed time every day because this is the day that You have made, and I am  ready and prepared for whatever lies ahead.”

We are blessed to be Gods children and warriors. My mantra is – “Armor Up and Fight the Good Fight of Faith every day.”

Have a great weekend.

Showing Goodness

Quote

As humans, we often become frustrated when the person on the other end of a business call cannot assist us. The reality is that we are not angry at the person but the representative of the company. The problem is that during work hours the person on the other end of the call is the representative, they are one and the same during working hours and are simply responding according to the company script.

Christ tells us to exhibit ‘goodness’ in all we do, that includes being kind to all people. The person on the other end of the phone does not deserve a curt response or defamed in any way. They, like most of us, are working to earn a living.

So, let’s agree that we can all do better. I can do better. Before speaking when we do not agree with or do not like what is being said, we should quickly think – would Christ respond in the way I am planning to proceed? The answer is an emphatic, ‘NO.’ One of the God’s gifts to us is goodness.

For He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness.
Psalm 107:9 NKJV

O, my soul, you have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.”
Psalm 16:20 NKJV

The Lord gave us ‘goodness’ so we could become more like him. Our responsibility is to [try to] purposely display goodness in all that we say and do.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Galatians 5:22-23 NLT

Our goodness is connected to the Lord, it fills our soul. Without goodness, we are left with exhibiting meanness, and on occasion, wickedness. Absent goodness, we become hosts of evil residing in this world, and cannot proclaim ‘we are in the world – but not of the world’.

We can all do better, we can show goodness in our conversations, actions, and deeds.

Gift of Desire and Power

Quote

God’s Promise – Gift of Desire and Power

When we listen to the Holy Spirit, who was sent to guide us through life, God will give us the desire and the power to do His work, those things that please Him.

It’s interesting, as we mature in the Word and continue this journey, we find that these things please us as well. We no longer walk in the dark and grey tones of life. We walk in the light, both pastel and bright. Stress loses its hold on us, and our experience becomes more peaceful.

Not all experiences in life will be pleasant, but from my experience, the process is much less stressful and much more peaceful.

The righteous person may have many troubles,  but the Lord delivers him from them all.
Psalm 34:19

We will suffer setbacks, hardships, misalignments, betrayal, and more. Jesus suffered them and died so we can be redeemed. The beauty is that God knows what we will go through in this life and provides or converts experiences to help draw us nearer to Him.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28

It is our decision to seek God’s rest and peace. We have been given the power to follow our Free-will or God’s Will. Which is your choice?

Let’s vow to stop looking out and begin looking inward to the Holy Spirit who guides us.

Weary? Rest in the Lord’s Arms

Quote

God’s Promise – I will give you rest.

I think we’ve all been weary at some point in our lives. Weary according to Vine’s Dictionary means – beaten down. While there are degrees of being beaten down, I think it’s safe to say, few have been immune. The Lord instructs us that at these moments we should run to the Him, hand over our cares, and rest in His arms.

Do you remember running into your parent’s arms when things were going wrong? Image the sense of warmth, safety and rest you experienced at that moment. Did you feel as if you could exhale? Well, our Lord provides warmth, safety, calm and rest. All we have to do is believe in His promise, be obedient to His Word, have unquestioning faith and turn everything over to Him.

Repentance is a Deliberate Process

Quote

God’s Promise – I will Forgive and Forget

You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you.
Proverbs 28:13

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
For He Himself knows our frame; he is mindful that we are but dust.
Proverbs 130:10-14, NASB

We are thought to repent, which is asking God’s forgiveness for committing a sin, i.e., doing something that does not reflect Christ in you. Our problem is that as humans unless we intentionally ask forgiveness, and then work to eliminate the sin, we repeat the act over and over again. Once we repent, that is, make our confession to the Lord, we must work to eliminate the action from our behavior, from our heart. We have to work to follow through on our word.  It’s our word, our promise to change.

Like any parent, God accepts our apology, but tires if  He does not see change and repeatedly hears us asking for forgiveness like a broken record.

I told you my sins, and I am sorry for them.
Psalm 38:18

Repentance is deliverance from the sinful action we confessed to the Lord. This is an intentional process to change.

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that he will forgive your sins.
Acts 3:19

Don’t break promises to God. He knows when we are sincere and when we are asking out of guilt and not repentance.

Thoughts as I work on Part 3, God’s Will -God’s Promises

Quote

What does get rid of filth and evil mean? Filth and evil are those thoughts and practices that are not of God, and in most cases, the things that internally send an alert, a sense of uneasiness or a pang of guilt.

Don’t ignore them. From my experience, we live to regret them and often are placed in similar situations to revisit them in the form of a repeat challenge. This is the story of free-will.

It is the Holy Spirit in us that is convicting us of sin. John 16:8.

The Holy Spirit enters our lives when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. The Spirit of God produces the Fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22-23, a topic of many of my Posts.

The Fruit of the Spirit should characterize the life of Christ in us.

Questions to ask yourself before taking action:

  • Do I follow my will or God’s will for my life?
  • Do I want to experience peace in my life?
  • Am I willing to give up the ’old man,’ controlled by my ego?
  • Will I yield to the flesh and carnal life, or to the Spirit of God?
  • Will I surrender my life, receive Christ in my life, pick up the Cross, and enter the Kingdom of God?

It’s more than a matter of perspective. It is a matter of choice (free-will). It is a matter of life or death.

God’s way will save your soul, and you will experience peace in your heart. Your way leads to a life of misery and eventual (eternal) death.

“By an act of faith, you must receive Christ. You must give him the total life, your intellect, your emotional life. Your will must be bent to His will…But as many as received Him, to them who gave the right to be children of God, those who believed in his name.” John 1:12. ~Billy Graham
