God’s Promises Shape Our Lives, #4

Quote

God’s promises are more than words on a page. His promises sustain us throughout our lives and throughout eternity. His promises are our assurance that He will never leave us or forsake us.

Lisa Blair

This is the fourth installment of the five-part series. Promises of God’s Word focuses on the authenticity of His Word. God’s word is all truth. You can rely on everything He promises us. He is not a man, who can lie. This means that if his promise does not manifest when you would like it to, it will in time. For example – You may have lost your job and pray that you can pay your rent or mortgage payment working diligently to do it yourself. Still operating carnally, you become desperate to no avail. Then something unlikely occurs, your landlord or banker offers a reprieve in some form, or God may work through people in another way to resolve the situation or circumstance. Sometimes we reach the bell tolling indicating we are out of time, there is no answer. You end up being forced to move. At that very moment, you feel lost. You begin to question God and His promises. However, after the ordeal, you find that you were offered a higher paying position, one you thought you would never achieve. You have a higher salary, career mobility, and the revenue to rent or purchase a nicer apartment or home. This may not have happened without God’s intervention. His ways are not our ways. We cannot begin to understand how God operates in our lives; we only see the result. God knows sees the steps needed to achieve the end result. Our entire lives are a series of lessons. Sometimes the lesson is not only for you, there may be a lesson He wants someone else to experience before He can activate the promise and respond to His request.

The moment of crisis offers a moment of trust, obedience, and dependence upon God. The crisis propels you to cry out to God, knowing He is the only answer to the predicament. It is also the most challenging time because, as humans, we want to take things into our own hands, make decisions without His input, and forge ahead blindly only to make things worse. I believe these scriptures will help you strengthen your relationship with our Lord. They will become part of your treasure trunk of scriptures that you can rely on and hold close to your heart.

He Will Do It

Numbers 23:19 GNB

God is not like men, who lie; He is not a human who changes his mind. Whatever He promises, He does; He speaks, and it is done.

Matthew 24:35 GNB

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are YES in Christ. And so through Him the AMEN is spoken by us to the glory of God.

God cannot lie. He offers eternity, the earth can pass away, but His Word will stand. His promises are made good through His Son Jesus Christ. God will always protect us even in the worst of times; even in our greatest sin. He will provide for us. Our Lord will never leave us or forsake us.

He Blesses

2 Samuel 7:28 NKJV

And now, O Lord God, you are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your Servant.

1 King 8:56 NLT

Praise the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, just as He promised. Not one word has failed of all the wonderful promises he gave through his servant Moses.

When Christ was crucified, we became the new Israel. His promises always remain the same – yesterday, today, and forever. There is no reason to doubt, God is ever-present and aware of every breath you take. Stand fast in the Lord, and in faith, you will begin to experience the calm and peace ever imagined.

Unexplainable Peace Every Day

Quote

The peace that is greater than our understanding is not a once in a lifetime experience. God supplied the Isrealites with daily manna, and He invites us to experience peace every day of our lives. We are blessed with daily renewal and all that it entails: peace, love, and joy.

~ Lisa Blair

Once Upon a Time, I was a complainer and envious. My parents provided and more than met my needs but that was not enough. I wanted what others had. I was never happy or content with what I had. I was not grateful for what my parents provided or God. I HAD NO PEACE.

It was not until I became much older and really focused on God”s Word that I began to I understand what He was conveying to all of His people, including me. The more I read about God’s peace, the more I wanted to experience it. Initially, I thought I deserved His peace just because. Later I wanted to experience it because I was tired of being envious and angry. As my prayer life grew stronger, I wanted to feel the gift of God’s presence in my life. His presence exudes peace. I wanted to bask in relationship His love, His peace, and His grace.

Finally, while praying in desperation one day, I began to feel a quiet that was not defined by the absence of sound, it was more a feeling in the middle of a melody. This quiet evolved into peace. It was peace greater than my understanding. God gave me an inkling of what I could experience every day if I chose. It was my responsibility to want it and to do so meant that I had to live the Word and become more like Christ. I had to learn to be grateful for everything He provides, including chastisement.

I’m not exactly certain when, but one day I noticed that I was praising and thanking God for everything that encompassed my day as it was happening. Praising and thanking God became a norm before I realized it was happening. It became an involuntary act. This brings me to the present, we had a few emergencies that interfered with our vacation savings. We are going on vacation next week. I was concerned about our disposal income, and rather than fretting and complaining, I found myself thanking God for the morning sounds, for His love and His mercy. I thanked Him for our vacation that was paid for, for our cousins who are vacationing with us this year, for my family, a roof over our heads, family members stepping out of the dark and into His light, for people overcoming addictions and carnal habits, for our leaders, my country (USA), and the world. During this time with God, I was suddenly filled with His peace. Things were not important. I was ensconced in His love and His peace. It was this day that I discovered that His peace can carry you throughout the day unmoved by worldly circumstances.

The peace that is greater than our understanding is not a once in a lifetime experience. Just like the manna God provided Moses’ people, the Israelites, and brought them out of Egypt, He offers His peace to us every day of our lives.

Moses said, This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt. ~‭‭Exodus‬ ‭16:32‬ ‭ESV‬‬

God gave us His Word to align our thinking with Christ’s example of living. In Matthew 4:4 it is written that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Now, this may seem like a departure from peace, but follow my line of thinking.

The Manna represents physical food and spiritual sustenance. The manna is a food source for both needs. Manna was a type of bread that could only remain fresh for one day. It could not be saved. The Word is spiritual manna. The Word teaches us how to receive God”s peace. GotQuestions.org describes peace as a state of tranquility or quietness of spirit that transcends circumstances. It is not a continuous state, but also must be renewed daily.

Living in peace can be compared to the petals of a flower unfolding in the morning sunlight. The petals of peace in our lives unfold as we learn more about God. We discover that His character is always faithful. We experience His continual goodness. We read more of His promises (Psalm 100:5115:11Isaiah 26:4). We learn to bask in His overwhelming love for us (Romans 8:38–39). We refuse to allow ever-changing circumstances to determine our level of contentment, relying instead upon the character of God that never changes (James 1:17Malachi 3:6). (GotQuestions, Ibid)

We attempt to define PEACE, but our language does not have words to define it. We can only explain it in some fashion after we personally experience it, and the explanation is left wanting. The only legitimate explanation is penned in the Bible – God’s Peace transcends our understanding.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 NIV

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ. Philippians 4:7 NLT

2.2 Billion Christians Strong

Quote

We Can Light Up the World and Change the Atmosphere.

While reading the daily devotional, Finding God in the Hard Places, I learned that the Pew Research Center reported there are 2.2 billion Christians living on the planet and represent about 30% of all the Earth’s inhabitants.

To quote the author, Ashley Abercrombie, if every Christian alive today focused on worshiping God alone and loving their neighbor, we would light up every corner of the Earth!

End Times?

Many believe we are entering the End Times. The Book of Revelations states that we will experience the battle between good and evil, and it will be recognizable. There have been many periods in history where civilization thought we were entering the End Times, and it certainly feels as if this is the time we are entering now. This is also the time when Christians are called to stand.

World In Turmoil

Whether you believe we are in the End Times or not, I believe we can all agree the world is in turmoil. It’s a global dynamic, a tectonic shift of sorts. Many feel hopeless and many that do are Christians. I understand the unsaved feeling that way, but as Christians, we have power and authority through Christ to change the atmosphere. We are roughly 2.2 billion strong. We are being called to represent Christ, put God first, love our neighbors, and serve one another through servant leadership. We are the change.

Lovers of Self

Paul spoke of being lovers of self, and lounging in our own security and not relying on God’s power. Our inability to stand demonstrates that we do not have the conviction to change the world around us. This is a direct affront on God, who gives us wisdom.

Listen, you lovers of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭47:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Paul told the Corinthians,

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. 1 Corinth.‬ ‭2:4-5‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Battle Ensues

God has equipped us with the power of the Word. He has provided armor to prepare us for battle, we cannot fall prey to the evil ones intent to destroy life as we know it. We must stand together, we are roughly 2.2 billion strong, and a force to be reckoned with.

Light Dwells In Us and Emanates Outward

We have to be the light, the Holy Spirit dwells in us. The world is observing our every move. Speech (talking) is one thing but an observation (seeing) is worth a thousand words. It is easy to claim to be a Christian, but demonstrating our spirituality is something completely different.

Changing the Atmosphere

Our task is to change the atmosphere and the only way to carry out this is to live like Christ. For me that includes minor things like being less critical and judgmental of our Nation’s leaders on FaceBook, not to ‘like’ negative, evil spirited comments, and not accept the behavioral norms defined by social media as my norms.

If you take time to check your actions, thoughts, and deeds, you will learn what you  must you change to demonstrate loving God first, loving your neighbors (other people), and becoming servant leaders (putting others before self.)

Ashley Abercrombie shared:
“Friend, if we just lived out Jesus’s two simple commands, don’t you think we could abolish human trafficking, reduce inequities in education, race, gender, economics, as well as develop strategies to end global poverty, terrorism, and more?”

Note: Christianity is not something people subscribe to, it is our life. God is our father. He walked the earth as Christ, died for our sins, and now resides in us in the form of the Holy Spirit.

We Begin With Wisdom

Quote

Hello Everyone, We Begin With Wisdom!

Wisdom means having good judgment. Sometimes we act before wisdom sets in. Before we act, we should go to God and seek wisdom. He is generous and will give it to you.

Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment. Proverbs 4:7 NLT

It’s best to be silent for a few moments commune with God and then act accordingly. Seeking wisdom should be our daily practice. Having good judgment takes practice. It is easy for our carnal man to jump first, act prematurely and regret the outcome.

This year let us seek wisdom in all that we do, major and minor, large and small. Every thought will come into captivity if we do.

We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we aretaking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NASB

I Just Joined BSF

Galations 8-32b

Sharing a Wonderful Experience

I just joined BSF, Bible Study Fellowship. BSF is an International Bible Study Ministry. Currently, there are 40 countries around the globe learning about the Bible as part of an International Brotherhood and Sisterhood.

This year’s study began three weeks ago, I began late and have three weeks of homework to catch up on before next week. The topic is the Book of Joshua. Everyone around the world is studying the same book of the Bible. I find this amazing. What an impact this group has made helping Christians magnify the Lord. Their mission-purpose is ‘Global, in-depth Bible classes producing a passionate commitment to Christ, His Word, and His Church.’

Galatians 2-20b

All classes and programs are free. BSF operates as a non-profit and is largely funded through donations. Those who can give, those who can’t benefit. Isn’t that the Christian way?

The session I attended today was a Women’s Study Session. I estimate 650 or so women participated in the group sessions and the service where the lesson was unpacked in lecture form. Their four-fold instructional method covers all learning styles.

Four-Fold Method

1) Questions for personal studyJoshua 1-9a
2) Discussion within the group
3) Lecture/expository teaching
4) Lesson notes

In closing, BSF has a long history, they have served the Lord in training Christians for over 50 years. If you are interested in learning more or joining the organization with me and others, visit their website: mybsfinternational.org. You won’t regret learning more about BSF, and perhaps becoming a part of a global movement.

The dress is causal, the friendship is welcoming, and the warmth is the presence of God.
